The realm of Purgatory was almost exactly as Raphael remembered it.The sky was a constant cloudy pale grey; the mountains in the distance were grey; and the stones, gravel, and dirt that made up the landscape were all barely varying shades of grey.
The only thing that seemed to have changed from when he was last here five hundred or so years ago was that there seemed to be more vegetation.
What little plants and trees there were in this realm seemed to have doubled, although they were still sparse compared to other realms, and to no one’s surprise, they were grey, like everything else.

Although Purgatory is a Greater Realm, it actually falls closer to the category of Hub World. It is a sparse monochromatic landscape that was the main location for much of the fighting between the forces of Heaven and Hell during the aptly named Razing of Purgatory. It has seen a tremendous decline over the years and can no longer be considered a Hub world.
It is unknown if this is a single landmass, or a planetoid realm, because it has never fully been explored or documented.

WHAT IS KNOWN
• Purgatory was always Monochromatic, the war upon it only made it worse.
• It was once an active Hubworld with a lot of towns acting like multiversal versions of halfway homes and inns.
• It is physically one of the closest locations between Heaven and Hell, only requiring a single portal jump to either from there.
• The Sealing of Abys’sul seems to have rendered many portals across Purgatory’s surface inert.
• Though there are survivors living there, they are few in number.
UNRESOLVED RECORDS
It is unclear if Purgatory once had it’s own local fauna or races living across it, for it is simply documented as being home to travellers from other realms.
It is also unclear exactly why the place seemed to be basic shades of grey.
ARCHIVIST’S NOTE
Purgatory became one of the fiercest battlegrounds during the Great War, a war that lasted far too long.
