As he looked up, it felt like he was staring into a giant stained-glass window that stretched over the sky. If it were not for the fact that he was standing on solid ground, he could have sworn he was looking down, instead of up. The ground he could see beyond must have been Hell, but even knowing that did not make it easier to believe. Even though he had seen the torn sky portal from a distance, it was another thing entirely to be standing directly underneath it.

“I am still not sure how they managed to pull that off,” Michael said from next to him, noticing what he had been looking at.

Raphael chuckled, “I admit it has me baffled as well.”

“Come now boys,” Gabriel said as she joined them. “You honestly think they would stay contained forever?”

“No,” Raphael agreed, “but I did not expect…” he gestured to the sky, “this.”

-The Archangels on unique portals

Dymensional Travel is the collective term used to describe movement between worlds, realms and planes of existence throughout the Tapestry. Unlike conventional travel through physical space, Dymensional Travel allows travellers to cross the boundaries separating otherwise disconnected regions of existence.

The most common known method involves the creation or use of portals, temporary or permanent gateways connecting two points within the Tapestry. The means by which these portals are formed vary considerably, ranging from magic and natural phenomena to specialised technology and powerful artefacts.

Though Dymensional Travel is well documented, the exact nature of the spaces crossed during such journeys remains poorly understood. Not every realm can be reached by the same methods, and some appear entirely inaccessible by conventional means.

WHAT IS KNOWN

• The Tapestry contains an unknown number of worlds and realms.
• Travel between them is possible, but not all are connected.
• Most worlds have artifacts or portals which allow travel.
• Some powerful beings have the ability to find, activate, or navigate worlds at will.
• Some realms, known as Hub worlds, have an abundance of portals and means of travel.
• Certain races have created artifacts capable of assisting with realm travel.

UNRESOLVED RECORDS

There has been recorded cases of entire worlds disappearing, as well as the portals which connect to them.

It is believed, perhaps as superstition, that some portals lead to places that no longer exist, or are simply inhospitable to mortals.

There are rumours that some portals or methods of travel allow movement through time, as well as space, but this is unconfirmed.

Something has recently been affecting the Tapestry in a way that has made travel more dangerous than usual.

ARCHIVIST’S NOTE

Portal travel is not for the faint of heart. You never know where you will end up, and who will be waiting for you on the other side.
Stick to the places you know are safe.
