New WIP Tuesday!

Another Tuesday, and another piece of WIP from the multiverse.
Today we return to the Flash Fiction of Jade, the Aether Knight in training.
This one is a bit more rough than usual, but we continue along with her story and seeing a little bit of her everyday Academy life.

As usual, Patreons get first access, and eventually everything eventually becomes a part of the main website!

Here’s a sneak peek:

She was still adjusting her shirt when she walked around another corner and almost stumbled headlong into another student.
They both stepped back in surprise until they recognized each other. Then they both scowled. Jade had almost run into Nobek, the only panther Felinid currently in the academy, and in most of the same classes as her. She would have apologized to him, but as he narrowed his gold eyes at her, she knew a confrontation was coming.

“Oh, so you are back,” the young Felinid said sarcastically. “We thought you would hide longer.” He smirked, his white teeth and fangs standing out against his dark skin and hair.

His attempt at an insult made Jade grit her teeth. “I was not hiding,” she growled. Part of her knew she should not rise to his insults, but she could not help herself. “I was injured. You know, hurt in a fight? Something you wouldn’t know about, Nobek.”

That comment struck home, and the panther’s eyes narrowed. It was a well-known fact that the self-conscious Felinid had gone out of his way to avoid getting injured during their training, to the point that he was probably the only one who had not been to the medicary over the last couple of years. The trainers, and some of the students who had been there longer, all knew that it was holding him back from improving in combat training. Even the training armour he wore had few marks on it, unlike Jade’s usual armour, which was the complete opposite.

Nobek forced a smile, baring his fangs again. “The trick is not to lose, Jade. You know, to not get beaten to a pulp.”

Knowing it would annoy him, Jade gave him a cocky grin. “Oh, but when you are outnumbered, several to one, it is very satisfying to be the last one standing. To take a few hits and still be the only one that walks away.”
